April Newsletter!

Happy Spring Break!

I look forward to hearing about all of your adventures when we return to school on the 17th.

Spring has finally arrived in the Rockies and with it unpredictable weather. Please continue to make sure your child is prepared for the weather each day as we will be attempting to head outside more over the next three months. As we head into better weather more after school play dates and outside activities may be arranged – As always, please let me know if your child is not taking the bus or heading to after school care.

** Also we have noticed a several toys and stuffies showing up a school these days. Please remember to remind your child that toys should stay at home. We have plenty of stuffies and toys to play with a school and we prefer not to have tears because a special toy gets lost (which happens – especially when they are small). Thank you for your support with this. If your child has a long bus ride or childcare after-school we do understand the need for some entertainment but these toys should stay in their backpack for the school day.

Learning 🙂
We continue to focus on the alphabet, beginning sounds, segmenting words into sounds, and thinking about the final or last sound in a word.  Our star words (sight words) will continue to be introduced – one per week. Our Star of the Day will now be sharing with a George the Gorilla journal. It is so exciting to see their writing development along with this process. I will continue to share your children reading their stories/writing on Google Drive.
With numeracy, we will continue to focus on recognizing and printing numbers, creating sets of items as well as subitizing and number in number concepts.
Our theme for this month is Dinosaurs! The children will be researching one type of Dinosaur and teaching others in the class about it. During the Dinosaur unit we will also have a homework project for your children to complete (lots of fun – I still remember my children completing this one in Kindergarten!)

Please continue to sign up as parent volunteers.  An extra hand is always needed – even it is just for an hour – and your children love to see you in class.
