May Newsletter

 May 1st, 2016

Welcome Spring! The flowers are starting to show themselves (a little) and we are getting closer to the end of the school year. The students are excited and tired these days. It is harder to get my own daughters to bed on time but we all need to attempt to do so. They are much less agreeable when they are tired (myself included).
We start May with our Plant Theme.  We will be planting bean seedsand marigolds  and watching them grow. Our new Inquiry Question is  – What is a seed? and do all plants have seeds? Then we will also explore the Jungle near the end of the month. Our final themes will be Insects and Bugs and the End of the Year.

Literacy
Several students continue to work with me on letters and sounds. Other students who have consistently been bringing back books have continued to exchange books each week. I will be bumping some of them up to the next reading levels if they are ready for it. We will continue to work on the Letters – printing, sounds and journal writing as well as segmenting words into sounds and our Kindergarten sight words.

Numeracy
Sorting, patterns, numbers 1-10 and the many ways to make them are continued with these new themes.
